CalmDogs — Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data CalmDogs stores, where it goes, and what your rights are. It is written to be read. If anything is unclear, write to calmdogs.info@gmail.com.
Who is responsible for your data
CalmDogs is made and run by Mikel Salinas Cordón, a self-employed individual based in Spain. There is no company behind the app. Under EU data-protection law (the GDPR), he is the data controller for everything described here.

Your account
You can use CalmDogs without giving any personal details. The app creates an anonymous account in the background so your data can be saved. If you choose to save your progress, we store the email address you give us, or your Google or Apple identity if you sign in that way. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address. We also store whether you said yes to marketing emails or notifications, and when — the law requires consent to be provable.
Your dog
Everything you enter about your dog: name, breed, sex, age group, how they came into your life, early-life history, bite and contact history, the triggers you select, and your questionnaire answers. If you add a photo, it is stored in a private storage bucket that only your account can open.
What you log
Every event you record in the app: stress events and their triggers, walks, exercises, notes, place labels, and any free text you type. This is the point of the app — every score and pattern you see is computed from these records, and from nothing else.
Some small things never leave your phone at all: tutorial progress and similar app flags are stored only on your device.
Location
If you allow location access, the app records your route during a walk you start, and the spot where you log a trigger, so it can show you patterns by place. This only happens while the app is in use — it cannot and does not track you in the background. You can decline location and still use almost all of the app, and you can switch it off at any time in your phone's Settings.
Usage analytics
The app sends usage events to Mixpanel: which screens and features are used, counts, and categories. These events are keyed to a random identifier created on your device — not to your name, your email, or your account. They never include your notes, your dog's name, or anything else you typed. Mixpanel stores and processes this data in the European Union (via api-eu.mixpanel.com).
Feedback you send
If you send feedback through the app, we store your message together with your app version and device model, so problems can be reproduced and fixed.
Why we use it, and on what legal basis
The GDPR requires a legal basis for each use of your data. Here they are, concretely.
Running the app — storing your account and your dog's data, computing scores, showing patterns — happens because you asked for it. The basis is the contract between you and CalmDogs (Article 6(1)(b)).
Marketing emails and marketing notifications are sent only if you opt in. The basis is consent (Article 6(1)(a)). The toggles are off by default, and switching them off again in Settings is one tap.
Usage analytics run on legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)): understanding how the app is used so it can be improved. You can object at any time — see Your rights below.
Walk location is collected only under the permission you grant iOS, and stopping it is one switch in your phone's Settings.
Who processes it for us
Three providers process data on CalmDogs' behalf, under contract, and none of them may use it for their own purposes.
Supabase runs the database, sign-in, and photo storage.
Mixpanel stores usage analytics, in its EU region.
Apple distributes the app and handles all payments. CalmDogs never sees your card details.
Your data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to train AI models.
Where your data lives
Your database, sign-in, and photo storage are hosted by Supabase in the United Kingdom (its West EU, London region). The UK holds a European Commission adequacy decision — renewed on 19 December 2025 and valid until 27 December 2031 — so personal data can move between the EEA and the UK without extra safeguards. Supabase Inc. is a US company; where it accesses data from outside the UK and the EEA, its data-processing agreement applies the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Analytics stays in Mixpanel's EU region. Mixpanel is also a US company; for any transfer to the United States, its data-processing agreement relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, the framework's UK extension, and Standard Contractual Clauses.
Apple processes payment and App Store data worldwide, under its own terms.
How long we keep it
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists — the app's whole value is your history. Deleting your account (Settings → Delete account) erases everything at once: every dog profile, every logged event, every photo, and the account itself. The deletion is immediate, permanent, and runs as a single all-or-nothing operation. There is no recovery. Deleted data also drops out of the provider's routine database backups as those expire.
Two honest details. Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account — do it in Settings first. And usage analytics are not tied to your account, so account deletion does not reach them; if you want those wiped too, email calmdogs.info@gmail.com.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it (portability), restrict or object to some processing, and withdraw any consent — withdrawing is exactly as easy as giving it.
How to exercise each one in CalmDogs:
Deletion is built into the app: Settings → Delete account. No email, no waiting.
Marketing consent: the toggles in Settings. Location: your phone's Settings.
Everything else — access, correction, a portable copy, objection: email calmdogs.info@gmail.com. You will get an answer within a month, as the GDPR requires.
If you think your rights have been ignored, you can complain to the Spanish supervisory authority, the AEPD (https://www.aepd.es), or to the data-protection authority of your own country.
No automated decisions about you
The app computes things like a daily stack score and a reactivity profile. Those describe your dog's logged pattern, inside the app, to you. They are not automated decision-making about you as a person, they produce no legal or similarly significant effects, and nobody else sees them.
Children
CalmDogs is not directed at children under 16, and it does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the app will say so. The date at the top always tells you which version you are reading.
